Lockout/Tagout
This course provides the student with information on the hazards caused by uncontrolled energy and how to perform Lockout/Tagout procedures for protection against injury.
Installation, repair and servicing machines and equipment may seem routine, but can be very dangerous. Unexpected start-up of equipment, contact with live electrical circuits and the unexpected release of stored energy results in 10% of serious industrial accidents, accounts for 28,000 lost workdays and approximately 120 deaths per year. Lockout/Tagout procedures are used to avoid serious injuries. Involving a lock and a tag at any point where energy can be released or where equipment can be turned on, these steps are designed to protect employees and operators.
